Towing & Mooring

With our three tugboats, we carry out a wide range of towing-related operations.

Farmar has more than 20 years of experience in towing barges and hulls and is a leading operator within mooring services. Our vessels operate across Europe and are fully equipped and crewed with experienced personnel.

Typical assignments include:

  • Towing of hulls and barges
  • Rig moves
  • Harbour assistance
  • Anchor handling
  • Escort service

We also perform temporary mooring of everything from small coastal vessels to FPSOs and rigs.

Farmar has an extensive range of mooring equipment, including:

  • Anchors and mooring chains (42-111 mm) in R4-K3 quality
  • Anchors of various types, including Stevpris 15 T
  • Ropes (56-88 mm)
  • Grommets, shackles and pennants from 8 to 400 T
  • Mooring winches and more than 30 Yokohama fenders in different sizes

Our shipping activities also include the operation of three crane vessels undertaking a wide variety of assignments:

  • Transport of construction materials and equipment to cabins in the local archipelago
  • Laying of subsea cables
  • Platform for diving operations
  • Recovery of deck cargo lost at sea
  • Lifting anchors and other equipment
  • Bollard pulls from 5 to 100 tonnes

The fleet also includes four barges. The largest, a Linkspan RoRo Barge, is often used as a distance barge and was most recently deployed during the visit of the world’s largest aircraft carrier to Oslo.

Farmar has extensive experience with emergency towing and salvage along the Norwegian coast. We maintain a large stock of salvage and wreck removal equipment stored ashore, regularly serviced in accordance with industry standards.

All our tugs are approved for towing, watchkeeping and emergency response and are regularly verified by third-party organisations such as DNV, LOC, GM and Voghtschmidt. We also utilise OVID (Offshore Vessel Inspection Database), which is an inspection and safety management system for offshore vessels.
