The barge is the same one used to transport the aquaculture pen Marine Donut from Brevik to Molde last summer. That time, the towing job was also carried out by FFS Arion (read more). Also at that time, the towing job was carried out by FFS Arion.

"The barge will be used in connection with a port development in Genoa," says FFS CEO John W. Nilsen.

BOA BARGE is 140 meters long and 36 meters wide, and can carry up to 24,600 deadweight tonnes. It is owned by the Trondheim-based shipping company Boa.

"The trip down from Rotterdam to Genoa is almost 2000 nautical miles and was characterized by fairly bad weather. But the barge arrived safely," says Nilsen.

The port of Genoa is set to undergo extensive upgrades in the coming years. In addition to constructing a new outer breakwater, dredging in what is called a new super basin is planned to provide safe access for container ships and passenger ships.

GENOA IS LOCATED in the Italian region of Liguria and has one of the largest and busiest ports in the Mediterranean. The city serves as a crucial logistical hub for maritime transport in Europe.

The port handles a wide range of activities, including container transport, bulk and general cargo, cruise traffic, as well as roll-on/roll-off services. The infrastructure is well developed, with advanced facilities for loading and unloading, storage, as well as maintenance and repair of ships.

In addition to its economic significance, the port is also an important part of Genoa's historical and cultural identity, with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages.
