- The barge was towed away by FFS Athos, and we expect it to remain in Kristiansand for one or two months, says John W. Nilsen, general manager of FFS.

FFS Ponton is 30.53 meters long, 21.11 meters wide and built in 1982. It is often used as a temporary or semi-permanent berth for RoRo cargo, that is cargo that can be rolled on board a ship.

– LARGE PILE RIGGERS is now on board the barge. For quay construction, FFS Ponton is ideal, says Nilsen.

The quay to be built on Elkem's industrial site is described as "green", as it will make it possible to transport cargo emission-free across the city fjord in Kristiansand.

THE OBJECTIVE IS NECESSARY that electricity or hydrogen-powered ships with cargo will go from the quay to the container quay on the city side.

Repstad Anlegg is the main contractor. Kaia is estimated to cost around NOK 50 million.

ELKEM PRODUCES electrode mass for 350 melting furnaces. To Fædrelandsvennen, plant manager Odd Olsen informs that around 90 containers are transported by road from the factory at Fiskaa to the harbor in the center every single week.

- What will make the big difference is that we will switch to transporting the containers with ships that run on hydrogen or electricity, says Olsen in an interview with the newspaper.
