With the start of the first of four construction phases in Lundevågen, Farmar is launching a major expansion of its quay facilities. Once the entire project is completed, quay capacity will be more than doubled.

"We have held a tender competition and are keen to get started as soon as possible. The construction period for the first phase is estimated at 130–140 days, so we expect this part of the quay to be completed by autumn," says John W. Nilsen, Managing Director of Farmar.

The plan is clear: as soon as the first construction phase is completed, the company will proceed directly to the second phase. The entire project has already received framework approval, facilitating efficient progress.

A KEY PRINCIPLE for the project is reuse. The old garage that previously stood on the site is already being demolished, and both concrete and steel will be given a new lease of life in the quay structure.

"All concrete removed will be reused in the quay facility. The same applies to a large proportion of the steel," explains Nilsen.

The new quay is not just an expansion, but a strategic investment in the region’s future economic activity.

"THE QUAY WILL be used for loading operations and other general vessel activities. However, all revenue-generating activity is important to us, so we do not want to limit ourselves to specific operations. That said, we do offer workshop services at the Lundevågen base, so we certainly view the expansion in connection with this business," he says.

Illustrations of the area show a large warehouse building, but Nilsen emphasises that this is merely an example of the opportunities that the development will bring.

OUR DESIRE IS to utilise the quay for new business activities. However, it could also be used for our own tugboats or for the mobilisation and demobilisation of seismic vessels. With large back areas available, the facility will be ideal for spool operations and other maritime services," he says.

Through this project, Farmar is preparing for the future and positioning Lundevågen as an important hub for both existing and new commercial activities in the region.
