This is the first time since the quay was completed at the end of November last year that the new quay has been put into practical use.
The occasion was the mobilisation of the seismic vessel Ramform Vanguard, an 86-metre long V-class vessel in the TGS fleet.
- "It's the first boat on the new quay. So it's fun," says General Manager John W. Nilsen.
VANGUARD FRAME MOULD was brought in from the storage harbour and assisted to the quay by a small towing team - the tugs Farmar Ares and FFS Atlas plus two workboats.
The vessel has been moored in Lundevågen awaiting preparation for its next assignment.
Nilsen points out that the new quay gives Farmar greater flexibility when equipping seismic vessels for operation.
- THAT WE CAN NOW "Using our own quay facilities to mobilise seismic vessels is a great advantage in every way," he says.
The work on the actual mobilisation of Ramform Vanguard is relatively limited in scope this time. The ship arrived largely ready for departure, with the necessary equipment already on board.
"IT IS NOT a lot of work. The boat has to be prepared, manned up and get out again. It hasn't been in Lundevågen for long," says Nilsen.
Ramform Vanguard was built at the Langsten S&B shipyard in 1998 and sails under the Norwegian flag. The vessel is designed for advanced seismic operations and can tow up to 20 streamers.
