New Farmar quay taking shape in Lundevågen

"After a long period of demolition and preparation, it’s great to see the construction beginning to take shape," says Farmar’s Managing Director, John W. Nilsen.

There has been a high level of activity at Lundevågen for several months now. Parts of the old garage on the site have been demolished, and large quantities of concrete and steel have been removed, sorted and prepared for reuse.

ON MONDAY, the project entered a new phase as concrete trucks from Sand og Betong AS delivered the first loads for what will become the foundations of Farmar’s new quay.

Formwork has now been installed along the innermost wall of the former garage site. The main contractor for the project is Lista Bygg.

WHEN FULLY completed, the new quay facility will more than double the current quay capacity. The project is divided into four phases, and the first phase is scheduled for completion by September/October. The next stage of construction will begin immediately afterwards.

Old concrete elements and steel structures from the demolition will be reused in the new quay. Farmar plans to recycle over 90 percent of the materials from the previous building.

"We want to be a company that looks to the future while considering the environment. It’s important for us to build smart and sustainably," says Nilsen.

THE QUAY will be used for cargo handling, workshop services and general maritime operations, but Nilsen emphasises that it also opens the door to new opportunities.

"This is the start of a larger development of the entire site. We’re building a quay that meets today’s needs but also allows for new revenue streams and future growth," he says.

AMONGST OTHER developments, new buildings such as storage halls and workshops may be constructed on the completed quay. According to Nilsen, flexibility in future planning is essential for Farmar.

"We want to facilitate further growth, whether that involves equipment storage, service buildings, or other commercial activities. With a new quay in place, we’ll have a completely new ability to scale in line with demand," he says.
