Farmar gets its own "Elias" tug

Farmar has welcomed a new little hero to its fleet: Farmar Avant – a compact and powerful tugboat measuring just ten metres in length.

With a pulling power of a full five tonnes and a personality reminiscent of the rescue boat Elias from children’s television, it’s ready for action.
“A neat little thing. It has a crew of two and is very handy. Its main task will be to work in tandem with Farmar Aton,” says John W. Nilsen, Managing Director at Farmar.
FARMAR AVANT may be small in size, but it has big ambitions. Its primary role will be to assist the crane vessel Farmar Aton, which can operate independently in the archipelago but occasionally needs a bit of a push or pull when the journey gets long.
At last, things are about to speed up when it comes to relocations!
BUILT IN THE in the Netherlands in 2020, it has been operating in Eastern Norway in recent years. Now equipped with certification allowing it to sail along the entire coastline, Farmar Avant is ready to take on assignments both near and far.
But as Nilsen points out, even small heroes have their limits.
“It has a bollard pull equivalent to three of our workboats and can be used for harbour towing. But it’s not the vessel we assign to assist the large cargo ships arriving at Alcoa,” he says.
FARMAR AVANT becomes the fifth tugboat in Farmar’s growing fleet, joining Farmar Arion, FFS Atlas, Farmar Athos, and another recent acquisition – Farmar Ares.
With its charming appearance and solid strength, Farmar Avant is poised to become a new favourite in the Farsund archipelago.
