With a tour of the workshop and aboard one of the boats, 10th-grade students from Farsund Secondary School got a taste of daily life at one of Lister’s most important maritime companies.

"We had a pleasant, informative, and, not least, exciting company visit. The students were impressed by all the activity at Lundevågen and the job opportunities available here," says teacher Bård Håberg.

Rune Stenberg, the base manager at Farmar, welcomed the nine students. He introduced the company’s wide range of services and their health, safety, and environment (HSE) practices.

"ALL OF THEM envisioned a vocational education. Therefore, we discussed the opportunities a maritime education can offer, both with us at Farmar and in the Lister region in general," Stenberg explains.

The class was then taken on a tour by workshop manager Ronny Christoffersen. They got an insight into the workshop activities before boarding the crane vessel Farmar Aton.

"A pleasant visit from polite and respectful youth," concluded Christoffersen.

TEACHER HÅBERG has no doubt that the equipment, boats, and workshops appeal to the students' interests.

"The fact that there is so much going on at the dock, where people with vocational backgrounds are employed, gives the students positive prospects for the future," he believes.

The visit is part of the coursework in Work Life Studies, a subject offered to 10th-grade students at Farsund Secondary School.

"Here, we focus on local company visits, especially where vocational education is required. We also run student businesses and practice collaboration, marketing, work ethics, and production," says Håberg.
