Arion and Aton have already been registered with new names. Now it's Athos' turn.

FFS Athos has changed its name to Farmar Athos. The boat is docked here in Lundevågen in Farsund.

- Our entire fleet will have Farmar in its name. But changing the name of a boat is a complicated process. Therefore, it will take some time before all the vessels are fully rebranded," says John W. Nilsen, General Manager of Farmar.
When a boat changes its name, the Ship Register and maritime authorities must be notified. In addition, all relevant certificates and documents must be updated. Port authorities, classification societies, insurance companies and operators must also be informed.
WHEN ALL THIS is in place, the new name can be painted on the wheelhouse or side of the ship, on lifeboats and on other relevant equipment on board.
The recently renamed Farmar Athos is considered Norway's greenest tugboat. It runs on electric motor power to and from towing assignments. This saves the environment from emissions and customers from costs.
THE VESSEL IS BUILT in 2014 and became part of the company's fleet at the beginning of 2020. Farmar Athos is used for towing, moving rigs, harbour berthing, long berthing, assistance and salvage.
The boat has two propellers - one at each end. These are driven from two separate engine rooms, each of which has a diesel engine with 1800 horsepower and a generator that produces enough electric motor power for the boat to maintain a cruising speed of eight knots.
The generator is powered by a marinated truck engine with over 500 horsepower.
During towing, the main engine is mostly on. Otherwise, the tug runs in e-mode. This means that power is only used when it is needed. This provides a good environmental benefit.
SINCE FFS MARINE changed its name to Farmar on 1 March this year, the company's new name and logo have been applied to cars, boats, buildings, clothing, stationery and equipment.
- "A total rebranding obviously takes time. But it's certainly progressing," says Nilsen.
Of the tugboats, only FFS Atlas remains. The barges and crane vessels FFS Amon and FFS Argo have not changed their names either. For the time being.
